When I first heard the announcement months ago I was very interested in it and was patiently waiting for it. After not reading any update on it, I emailed the company on when it was coming to Canada. The following response was sent back:

As soon as the issue with Colt's is over

Regards

Ohhh boy. Sounds like Colt's lawyers are trying to put a kibosh on it. Don't blame 'em since it's their design. But that would suck 'cause I wanted one. :p

Will be interesting to see one when/if they ever show up.

I wish they wouldn't waste that new opportunity to put a modern, maintenance free, transfer bar mechanism in it...

Norinco should make a Python. I don't imagine they would be so nitpicky about patents and such.

That's kind of like saying Kia should make a Lamborghini. I like norinco firearms but the whole draw of the Colt Python is that is reeks of quality and precision hand-fit parts. If you must have something cheap, and that resembles a python get a Taurus 689. If you want a quality revolver at prices less than the python you should get a S&W 686

I like that post, particularly the part about Pythons 'reeking' of quality and precision hand fit parts. I couldn't have said it any better!

Since the Colt snake guns are so collectable, why wouldn't Colt start manufacturing them again?

This is just speculation but I imagine if they ressurected the Python it would carry a price tag of 4-5 grand to match the quality of the original. There aren't too many people in that snack bracket to make their efforts profitable. Not to mention how much they would have to spend on advertising to counteract all of the negative jibber jabber on the forums about how "the new Pythons are crap next to the originals" or "they just don't make them like they used to".

Colt has fallen so far out of the revolver game I don't think anything they put out now with "Python" on the barrel would be well received. The era of the Colt revolver is over.

Ehhhhhhhhhh.....I dunno. If I bought the Pietta it would always be a copy. Even if Colt made them now I'd still want one of the originals.

Kind of like the S&S shovel and panhead copies. It ain't the same animal.
