Pietta Python

hmm, maybe a few folks at colt might see that if someone else can copy their product and sell it, that there might just be an opportunity there....maybe

Now that i bought my first genuine Colt revolver, i guess, i am gonna have a hard time buying an imitation... JP.

There are legal issues being sorted out. Apparently Colt didn't take kindly to Pietta trying to copy their product.

Despite the fact that it is exceedinlgy unlikely at best that they will ever manufacture it again themselves! Heck, they've filed for Chapter 11 and so are in dire straits. I wonder when the statute of limitations on the Python design runs out?

Mind you, Stoeger owns the "Luger" trade name and they haven't made one since the 60s (?) although I don't suppose that would prevent someone from producing a "Pistole Parabellum 08" which is the correct name anyway.

All you are going to be getting in a Pietta clone is a revolver that resembles the same general shape of a Colt Python. The end product in no way will be comparable to the real deal unfortunately. Really no different than the Taurus 689. Hell even if Colt started making them again the end product would turn your stomach if you were expecting the same class of revolver as the original.

Its going to be a tough sell for them, if they manage to muscle their way into the gp100 vs 686 market id be very surprised. If by some miracle though they manage to come in cheaper than a gp100 and still turn out a decent vent rib barrelled revolver I'd be interested.

If after the dust settles between Colt and Pietta and Pietta still decides to go ahead I think it would be hilarious if they called their Python copy the "Pietta Mongoose".
