Hey all,

Apologies if this is in the wrong forum, but it seems appropriate. (Mods, feel free to move and scold me as required :d )

I am wondering if anyone has experience with the title combination? I have the PIG tripod and am wondering if the P.R.S.T. BH1 Ballhead is a decent piece of kit despite its low cost? I am not a PRS pro, but I am looking to get into the game and expand my positional shooting capabilities while staying on a budget. If you are running (or have run) this combo, please share your experiences.

Thank you.

I used a Slik 700DX tripod (which is the PIG tripod minus green paint, the hook on the centre column and spikes) for a season of shooting PRS and field matches. It's sturdy, stable and works well, for the price. I'd suggest getting that over the PIG as the 700DX can be had for $99usd if you look around. The only downside I found to it, other than weight (I replaced it with a PRST) is that one of the plastic stops inside the leg (that stops the leg from fully sliding out when you are extending them) broke. I've contacted Slik to see if I can get a replacement but haven't heard back yet.

I don't have any experience with the ballhead. If you go look on the ShadowTech website, he has compiled a good list of ballheads that are suitable. Baiscally you want the heaviest load rating you can find. After that, it's personal preference. Most guys are going to low profile ballheads or levelling bases now though as they are more stable. I've been using a Sirui K40X ballhead and although it's been satisfactory, I'll shortly be upgrading to a RRS Anvil 30.

I'm in the same boat and would like to hear from BH1 users. Currently I'm using a gamechanger on the PIG0311 and it works. I'd like to go with a ballhead however.

I use this exact setup in conjunction with a PIG Saddle. As far as feedback goes, I would say that this ball head is effective (especially given the price) but it is not as fluid (smooth) as a larger ball head (which also tend to cost more $$$). My rifle, A tikka t3x varmint 308 in a KRG xray with a vortex razor gen 1 5-20 weighs about 15ish pounds.

I notice that when using tripod/BH1 in most neutral positions it is very stable. combine a sling into the mix and its pretty great. I haven't totally mastered using the gear yet, so as far as recoil management, I do get some kick which causes the tripod to jump a little, but the ball head does not seem to slip when im bracing the gun properly (I shoot with a Brake).

Hope this helps.

Thank you for your post.

I have a Feisol CB-50D ballhead on the way as well as an ATRS Deathgrip; so a bit of a direction change, but I'm looking forward to trying it out. I have much to learn about positional shooting, but I think my gear will give me a good baseline to start with.

Next hurdle - get my fat a$$ out to a PRS match and learn!

Cheers!
