Hi All,
I'm planning to order a Boyd's laminated stock for my Model 10 Savage. It's available with a forward pillar, a $62.00 US upcharge.
I had planned to glass-bed the rifle if I felt it was required.
I have zero experience with pillars; is it a worthwhile add-on to the stock? The cost is immaterial.
FWIW, it's a hunting rifle in .250 Savage, and the stock will be their Platinum model.
Thanks,
Kevin

Well you can torque the action bolts down tighter with pillars…. Will that aid in accuracy? That’s the golden question. I have had stocks with and without. Personally I probably wouldn’t. Laminate is a pretty hard material anyway.

I have bedded a few Boyds stocks with aluminum Pillar's and had good results however my preferred method now is to open up the holes to 5/8 and glass in my own pillars with devcon around the action screws works great and is very stable. In a laminate stock though in most instances a regular bed float job is probably all that's required.

If you are glass bedding it, no need for the pillars, the bedding will accomplish the same thing.

The laminated wood does not compress easily. A decent bedding job is all that is needed. That goes for the vast majority of solid stocks.
