This was an option that was mentioned when I checked about getting some work done on my 1911 . Is doing this going to make this gun unsafe . I thought one of the reasons the 1911 was so safe was the grip safty ? Is there any advantage to doing this ?

Thank Guys

Some clubs won't let you shoot your firearm if the grip safety is pinned....

Barrie gun club turned me away from a PPC match because my Hi-power had the mag safety removed....their rules stated all factory installed safety items had to be in working order.........

Pinning the grip safetly ensures that the gun will work even if your grip is less
than perfect on the gun...
It seems to me that some clubs are being a little anal in their insistence that
no modifications are allowed..
Remember...the only safety device that works well is the one between your ears......

In the case of BGC, it's more likely that they were simply enforcing PPC rules. Last time I looked there wasn't any such scrutiny at an IPSC match there.

Let's see... grip safety, thumb safety, firing pin safety... how many safeties do you need on a 1911. Pin it!

Funny how nobody mentions how 'unsafe' a revolver is and last time I looked I didn't see any safty on one of those.

'Cuz they are internal.

I thought that pinning the safety also improved consistency of trigger pull too? Fewer moving parts, no?

No. Once you squeeze a grip safety, it is out of the way of the trigger group so pinned or not, it makes no difference on the pull.
