Ok so as of today, I'm the proud owner of a Theuron Defense 9mm Carbine (Thanks Arms East). During my research it became apparent that the laws on magazines are kinda grey. I would love to hear everyones view on it.

Arms East has taken the stance that any magazine being attached to a long gun must be limited to 5 rounds. So any carbine they sell will come with a magazine limited to 5 rounds (including the Glock version). I really can't blame them as their license is their business and that stance is definitely within the law.

However some of the competition being sold is coming 10 round mags. So the law certainly seems open to interpretation. Here is a quote from the RCMP website :

-5 cartridges for most magazines designed for a semi-automatic centre-fire long gun; or
-10 cartridges for most handgun magazines

To me.. It seems that as long as the magazine in made for a pistol its OK to be 10 round even if its being attached to a "long gun".

What does everyone else think?? In a couple of weeks Arms East will sell a 10 round version of the SMG magazine for use in the Theuron Defense pistols. Would I be breaking the law by plugging those mags into the 9mm non-restricted carbine.

You are correct. Carry on with Glock magazines and load them to 10(plus one in the chamber ;))

The version I purchased does not use Glock Magazines. It uses SMG mags.

I think I might actually call the CFO and see what their take on it is..

The mag needs to be designed for a handgun in order to load 10.
Yours uses uzi mags and likely needs to be pinned at 5.

They'll tell you that since it's an SMG mag that it has to be pinned at 5. And by our laws that is the case.

I hate to say it but you should have been more patient and gotten the Glock mag version.

I just had a Thureon in my hands yesterday. Sweet looking gun that felt nice in the hands. But the 5 round SMG mag made me hand it back to the shop guy along with a comment that it would have been better if it would take Glock or some other handgun mags. He didn't say that there was a version which did.

Ahhh but.. Arms East is importing some Theuron Defense pistols that will take 10 round SMG mags. They also plan to sell those mags separately.

So in theory (at least to me) it would be legal to purchase those mags and use them in this gun. Since those mags are designed for "Pistols".

I actually wanted the SMG version for a couple of reasons. Number one being that the gun was originally designed to use that mag. Number 2, if our laws are ever changed (I know doubtful) I can unpin the mag and have 32 rounds. Number 3, SMG mags are tougher. Number 4 I like the look of that long chunky mag sticking out.

Glock makes 33rounders.

You keep referring to them as SMG mags.....can you be more specific? Are they Uzi?
I think they went with Uzi mags because they are fairly decent, cheap and available in the US.....un fortunately they don't work with our silly rules as well as the glock mags.

If/when such mags become available then it would be a great option.

Can-Down, yes they are Uzi mags according to the Thureon website.

I just watched Hickok45's video on the Thureon. I think I need to get a Glock mag version with the octagonal front shroud and that same top rail. The whole setup just as he has looks super sweet.

Here is the official from their website.

"The Thureon Defense carbine is made to use most magazines designed for the Colt AR-15 9mm carbine"

"The magazines supplied with our carbines are modified 32 round Uzi mags."

The version I picked up should be very similar to the one Hickok45 is shooting, minus the sights and with UZI mags. Mine also comes with the modular quadrail for mounting all manner of crap.

I know for a fact that the 10 round mags (UZI) are coming as I just spoke with Arms East about it this morning. Their ETA is 2 weeks, but could be longer. They have the mags, are just waiting on a license to be issued (you know how long that can take).

P.S. Reason 5. It sounds cool when you tell people the magazine is from an UZI.
