Pistol calibre rifles

I was just wondering why there aren't more pistol calibre rifles. I notice that while there are some lever and pump actions in .357, .44, and other revolver calibres, there don't seem to be any in 9mm, .45, .40, and seemingly no bolt actions aside from the odd .45 Enfield conversion or Spanish Destroyer carbine.

Is there any particular reason for this?
 
ruger makes a carbine in 9mm and i beleive 40. the beretta storm is available in 9mm, .40 S &W and .45ACP and can be made non-restricted with a longer barrel. plus there are ARs available in a bunch of pistol calibers. then there's the Marlin Camp Carbine.

not sure of the reason. Perception : too big for personal defense compared to handguns and too low powered for hunting?

I'm aware of the glock/1911-based carbines, and the AR/Storm, but that brings up the other question of why none of the semi-autos are chambered in revolver cals like .357. I suppose there's an issue with fitting the mag well for the pistol-based carbines, but it also seems like a way to get around countries with bans on military calibres (I think Italy, Mexico, and some other Latin American countries?)

i can think of a couple- the early desert eagle and the coonan-whether the eage is a conversion or not, a friend has one- as for the coonan, while it looks like a 45auto, the grip is much longer and to me , it just plain feels funny-

Desert eagle chambers 357, and 44 in a handgun with a mag, so I dont see why it wouldn't work in a rifle.

Many areas in the U.S where designated shotgun only zones are now allowing the use of rifles chambered for pistol calibers. Great idea IMO.

i'm not saying it can't work.

personally, i would really like something like the ruger 77/22 in 7.62x25

I think a nice short bolt action carbine in 40 s&w or 9mm would be a hot seller and I know I would by one for sure. 9mm is cheaper to reload for then buying a box of 22mag shells.
I am very happy with my 77/44 that I picked up new a few years ago. It is just as accurate as any 44 mag lever gun on the market.
