I went to my local shop today and thought I lucked out on a new (but vintage) Outers Pistol Cleaning Rod # 41804, for $2.00, from his bargain bin. It came with a plastic slotted jag, but the brush was missing. I bought a Hoppe's .40 cal brush, with 8/32 threads, but the rod is a larger size. Is this rod simply trash, as it seems that all brushes and jags are 8/32, these days?

I'm having a problem finding a Canadian source for the beloved TW25B........

I bought a tube of Outers Gunslick, anhydrous graphite, for $2.50 (this and the pistol rod came from a shop that my guy "bought out" some years ago). Is this suitable for slide lube on a P226?

Thanks.

I use Lubriplate 105 on all my pistols frame rails and sliding parts. Lucas Red N Tacky is another good one I'm told. If I ever run out of Lubriplate I'll give the Lucas a try. Grease for sliding parts oil for rotating parts.

Certainly, the vertical tube that says 105 on it, but what about the smaller tube that is lying horizontal........the add says 105 but the tube doesn`t........which do you use :)

I got my 10 oz tube of Lubriplate 105 from Auto Value. It is at least as good as TW-25B at a much lower price. Engine assembly lube is a much more demanding application than firearms.

Do not use graphite on aluminum-framed guns. It can cause corrosion of the aluminum.

Thanks guys!! :)

And what about this :)

Sheesh! You guys complicate stuff.

My cleaning routine:

1) Spray gun with G96.
2) Shoot a couple thousand rounds through said gun.
3) Strip said gun and spray it with G96.
4) let it soak until I feel like cleaning it.
5) Don rubber gloves, spray more G96. Scrub, scrape, wipe until I'm satisfied. Pull bore snake through barrel, 1-6 times.
6) Spray with G96
7) Repeat step 2.

You do realize that Lubriplate 105 does liquify when it gets hot.

This^^^^^. G96 is what I use. Sometimes I spray it with Tri Flow.

it all depends on how badly you want to use the rod- aluminum is very soft and easy to take a section of aluminum or whatever and tap and die it to whatever the pitch is on the rod- then drill the other end for 8x32- shouldn't take more than 10 minutes or so- dewey also uses a oddball end on their rods, but they also sell an adaptor- or maybe the same adaptor I don't know- just use a press and drill so you get your holes CENTERED
