BHP 9mm is a great gun regardless of the shooter's gender.

Of course I vote for the Beretta if she like the way that handle it. But since the gun has a longer trigger reach at double action, you may want to make sure she has no problem to shoot double action or just to use single action. BHP is a world wide highly respected firearm and also a good choice.

Beretta 92 FS is great but it is big and quite heavy, I find this helps with felt recoil. Which SiG did you put on layaway? The 229 is an amazing all steel compact pistol, has some weight and is balanced well because of it but because of it being compact is lighter and easier to handle.

OK... take a breath... and add a few periods! The period key is on the bottom right of your keyboard between the <,> and </>. It is commonly used in the English language to break up words into sentences so that it is easier for others to read. :p

As for the gun for the wife what does she like is she set on a semi-auto or maybe a revolver might be more her cup of tee then she wouldn't have to pick up brass and it can encourage taking your time to get a good shot i do believe maybe a nice new S&W 686 then she can use some light recoiling 38 Special rounds and for a bit of fun now and then use some 357 Magnum rounds more bang and flash is always fun for a change don't you think but if she is set on a semi-auto there are lots to choose from Beretta's are nice or maybe a 1911 then she can always upgrade to a larger calibre if she feels comfortable with it as a 9mm what is your budget knowing that will help us narrow down the list a bit too do you want an original real mckoy or will a norinco copy be alright

Fudd

PS - that was hard. I really don't know how some of you guys do it! No sentences or capitals. I tried!

I'm with ElmerFudd on the revolver suggestion. When it comes to centerfire cartridge guns I've found that women do better with revolvers than semi autos. Don't ask me why.

A great choice would be a S&W in a K frame. Model 19, 66 does both 38 Special and OK for some 357 Magnum. Or if there is no need for 357 then the model 14 is a great choice.

As far as .22s I like the High Standard guns.

Make sure that the gun you get for her is accurate. A lot of women tend to care about accuracy more than guys. Some guys are happy just throwing a bunch of lead down range. Women get frustrated if they do poorly and do not see improvement. Start with a decent gun.

I'm also a big fan for the CZ75 platform. A lot of things going for this gun. I've had an early (typically called Classic) CZ75 for about six years now. I just picked up a CZ85 Combat. Not bad for a stock gun. Some people suggest the Norinco versions to save a few bucks. I've read the frame is a little wider than the real CZ. This night not be as good for someone with a smaller hand.

If possible have her try shooting the same type of gun you are considering buying. A gun in the store is not always the same as a gun on the range. It's tough buying a first gun if you don't know what may be important to you.

I've get 2 1911's from Sproingfield Armory. The .45 Milspec has a Kimber .22LR conversion sitting on top of it, that .22LR gets out to the range at least once a week. The .45 top end only goes out when I need bear protection while running the target butts at 3W.Milcun.com. I also use the .45 whenever my wife in shooting on the line or the same relay.

Otherwise she loves the 9mm 1911 single stack. Small grips made the 1911 fit nicely. She also loves the single stack 1911 magazines since stuffing the magazines for her shooting is easier than the BHP and my Glock17 magazines. She has soft hands, eh ?

At your gun club, have her try as mann pistols as other members will allow. Once she says, "I like this..." , then rush out and buy her one !! :D

Hope this helps.

Take her to a shop and let her feel/hold a Glock 17 9mm and if she likes the feel of it buy it then buy an Advantage Arms 22LR conversion kit for it...

I would also suggest a smaller stainless steel revolver in 38 Special/357mag...

Some women including my wife is far happier shooting a revolver than a semi...

Plus she will go thru far less ammo shooting a revolver...

My Wife has a TAURUS 24/7 Pro, and a Bul Cherokee both in 9mm. She loves them both. The smaller grips allow her to hold them properly. Both are relatively inexpensive and decent pistols. But take her down to the gun store and let her hold/ look at them, to see if it’s right for her. When it comes right down to it, she’s a woman and it has to be pretty.
My 2 Cents.

The 229 is an amazing all steel compact pistol, has some weight and is balanced well because of it but because of it being compact is lighter and easier to handle.

Only the P229ST is all steel. The standard P229s have alloy frames. Nice guns but I find the longer sight picture of P226s to be more newbie friendly.

she like the feel and look of are the berreta 92
If the gun fits he well, no reason to look any farther; it's fine reliable and accurate pistol that both of you will enjoy... If it's too big I'd suggest M&P, 24/7 or even Steyr M9-A1 - all have pretty small grips.

my wife owns an S&W M&P 9mm. small enough grip, the price is right ($625)and she is very accurate with it. 3" group at 25 yards.

The SW M&P in 9mm is a great choice, the gun looks nice, shoots nice and you can change the grip size, it's also light, better trigger than the Glock and nice sights.
