Trying to help my wife pick a good 9mm pistol that will fit her small hands, she has tried my 1911 .45 and it’s a little to big for her hands. Any suggestions?

Walther PPQ. Beautiful trigger, fun to shoot, and great for smaller hands. I have smaller hands myself and I find myself moving between the PPQ and the Glock19. Both have changeable backstraps.

Might be a little late, but Beretta PX4storm in 9mm has a small grip (you can actually change the size of the grip).

I have small hands and it is always a struggle for me to buy pistol.

First of all, it is not just about grip size. you have to look at the shape of the grip, especially the upper part. First of all, some grip shape is better for better with lower grip strength. Contrary to some thinking, a little bit of swell nearthe heel actually helps with the "squeeze", so you don't necessary want to have the skinniest grip at the bottom, but you want skinny grip at the trigger level. Any material on the grip near the trigger means the trigger finger is pushed out and it is problem for people with small hands. That is why Glock is such a problem for people with small hands. If the finger cannot have a decent reach on the trigger face, it is going to be a problem. It is very difficult to shoot fast and accurately. No matter how much you practice, your grip strength and the technique - you really cannot have good technique if the finger cannot decently and consistently engage the trigger face.

This might sounds counter intuitive to some people, but if you have the dough, try a SIG P226 Legion in SA only. I will also recommend looking into the new CZ CP10. S&W M&P is also a good choice in the lower budget bracket. Steel gun wise, Browning MK3 will also work if you can find one used.

Girsan MC 28....very similar to m and p. 1.1 inches at widest grip point, not to heavy, solid construction and is a great first pistol for under 400.00

Comes with 3 backstraps for different sized hands. I have put 400+ rounds downrange with mine and its still one of my favorite pistols.

The Bond BullPup 9mm is a great design and by its design women love shooting it Check it out!!

Should add, because of the design.. the barrel meets Canadian barrel length requirements and is legal as a restricted pistol..
Here is a Canadian link and version:

greentips made lots of good points.

I'm shooing a CZ Shadow 2. I bought it for competition purposes, but it's a really nice fit. The cut-out under the dove-tail allows me to get a "deeper" grip, gives me really great control. I like the aluminum grips. It keeps my hands cooler... my hands always get really hot. greentips also mentioned the Sig P226 Legion in SA only. It's a beautiful gun, with a beautiful trigger. If she's looking to compete in IPSC, you'll need to get .40 or bigger. The gun being SA only puts her in "Standard" division. She'll be in the "minor" power group shooing a 9mm, and her points will be worth less. Which, will put her at a major disadvantage. The Legion is available in DA/SA, which will keep her in "Production" and therefore makes shooting 9mm the best choice. I do not know if the DA/SA model is any different in size.
The SA version will likely be my next gun.

She may like heavier guns. They tend to have less recoil. Which will help her get back on target faster.
I don't like plastic, dainty guns.

The Sig P226 Legion is much lighter in comparison to the CZ Shadow 2. The Sig uses aluminum vs the CZ using steel. Which, still gives the Sig more heft compared to Glocks/M&P/Striker-Fired, and therefore, a bit more control with the recoil management.
