Does anyone know of where to puchase a pistol kit in Canada? I would like a revolver, preferably with a top strap like a Remington 1858, but willing to look at other models of revolvers. I have found a few places in the states (that will not ship to Canada), but nothing on google for Canada shops. The kit part of it is the priority. Looking for a winter project. Any suggestions where to look? Good models? Bad models?

You know that they are restricted firearms, right?
In the US, these cap and ball pistols are not considered to be firearms, in Canada, they are considered to be that same as a Glock or any other Restricted Class handgun.

Find a brand name, contact any dealer that carries that brand, and see if their wholesaler can get the kit in.

Flintlock pistol?

I believe flintlock pistols can be imported from the states IF the touch hole is not drilled. I suppose the problems may start once you actually (if) drill the touch hole. When this occurs it becomes a restricted firearm, hence registration. Anyway, lots of places to try. You may give Loyalist Arms (yes they have a web site) a try. They are in Halifax and may be able to help you.

Cheers. Steve.

loyalist arms sell of a number of flintlock pistols without the touchhole drilled if you desire to not have it registerd as a restricted firearm, only thing thats not good is they all come from india and the stocks are made of poor wood, the barrels are not to bad on the pistols, and you might have to remove some beef off the mainspring, I find thier rather a hard pull. ....but ...as soon as you drill the touchhole its a restricted firearm and has to be registerd.

I picked up a percussion pistol kit at a gun show last year. It was already registered. I have removed some wood, bedded the stock and bent the tang to fit the stock, filed the site and rib so they fit in the dovetail, and polished the brass pieces. Now all I need to do is make a new piece for the trigger to accommodate the change in angle of the screw that goes into the tang I bent, re-drill the hole that screw goes into, drill a new hole for th front site because the pre drilled one is very off center, get a drill press to drill the hole for the barel rib, finish the wood and blue the barel.

I cannot remember ever seeing a 'revolver' kit of the era your looking for.
I have seen pepperbox kits (dixie gunworks) but they are in the US.

They may exist , so good luck.

Dixie had the kits at one time ...im not sure if they carry them now or not I'd be surprised if they didnt have them ....but most of those companys carrying them wont ship them to Canada.

I called Loyalist Arms a few days ago and left a message. They don't seem too interested in calling back. Dixie Gun Works (USA) shows a lot of revolver kit guns for sale. It was a google search from info from Dixie that led me to Loyalist in the first place. EuroArms apparently makes a Rem. 1858 kit and Loyalist is the main Canadian distributor for EuroArms. Marstar is also listed. Called them this afternoon and they don't carry kits at all. Only built guns.
MasterPython; what brand of gun did you get? It sounds like something I'd like to stay a mile or so away from. I have access to a lathe and a mill and don't mind doing some filing, tweaking, and such for fit and finish, but the gun you got sounds more like aggrevation than a project. This is what I'm looking for from you guys; what is good and what is bad. I don't mind the registered part of it. My PAL says I'm legally sane enough to own restricted and 12(6) handguns. Thanks for all the input so far. Hopefully some more sources will pop up for me to try. thanks again, all.

Look in to Track of the Wolf.

They have a huge selection of rifle kits and all sorts of BP parts and supplies. I have not looked there for pistols but would be surprised if they did not have at least a few. Don't remember ever seeing anything related to revolvers though.

There is a place called "possible shop" in the US tha carries revovler kit, but i don't know if they ship to Canada. Check their web site by adding ".com" after the name.

I checked out their site and all the pistols listed are single shot style. I'd be surprised if they (or any other shop in the US) could or would ship a gun to Canada, regardless. The way I understand it is if you are not an american, you're not to be sold any type of gun. If a shop will jump through the expensive hoops for export permits, brokers, etc. it can be done, but that would drive the cost up enough that it is rarely worth doing. A lot of shops would rather be safe than sorry and have to face the wrath of the ATF. Cant say that I blame them, actually. thanks for the tip, anyways. Still have a faint hope that such a purchase is available in Canada...

It is an Ardesa kit that was probably made in the seventies or eighties. It's the same factory that makes the Traditions guns.

Not sure if the quality has gotten better over the years.

These guys are in England and they ship something that is not considered a gun under their laws. But you need to do a lot of work to get something that goes bang. Plus they are pretty expensive.
