OAL is determined by 3 factors:
I just saw a tip in the pistol forum.
Take the barrel out of the pistol and drop the bullet into the chamber.
Drop in a fired case and tap it in until the case bottoms firmly on the chamber mouth.
Push the round back out.
I just did this with a M&P and a Glock (40 S&W).
Obviously it is impossible to load a magazine compliant round that will hit the rifling. This makes it easy. I just choose a length that is well off the magazine wall and I am GTG.
- Has to be short enough to fit the mag.
- Has to be a length that will feed properly.
- Bullet can't be seated out so far it hits the rifling.
