Hi guys, I have recently purchased a Hornady 5 stage press with the intention of reloading 9mm Luger and 45 ACP.

The pistols I am reloading for are a Sig p320 and a Colt series 70 1911 and I was wondering what powders would work good for both or if I need different powders.

Things I have been reading about is powder consistency and clean burning but its very confusing there are so many choices for all types of rounds.

I was looking at Hodgdon CFE Pistol Powder or Hodgdon Tightgroup Powder.

Are either of theses good choices?

Regards, John

Why not get yourself a manual or check out hodgdons reloading site. Enter your caliber and bullet weight and see what comes up. Take note then search your next caliber and weight looking for duplicates.

Ok, so now I have a total of 9 different powders to consider :)

CFE Pistol
Tightgroup
Winchester 231
Longshot
700x
HS-6
Unique
Bullseye
PowerPistol

So, I should be good with any of the above choices? what is the purchasing criteria availability? price?

Its just whats avaliable at the time.

Beggers cant be choosers. Get what you can

Most powders listed can load both calibers

I was not aware this info was available on the hodgdons site, Thanks for pointing that out.

Use TiteGroup for 9mm, 45ACP, 357, 44, 50. Works great.
H110/Lil'Gun for magnum loads in 357, 44 and 50

For HDY LNL press get the pistol micro pwdr measure.

i just started reloading and the only one ive tried is titegroup. works good for me and its inexpensive. $22.75 per pound at Le Baron with their 10% off membership card ($25.27 regular price) when i bought them yesterday.

Jacketed, plated, or lead bullets? Rank your powder choices by burning rate. Slow burning usually better for jacketed(major loads?), fast burning for target loads with lead. bullets.

Buy me some, ill give you $30 a pound.

they have no more right now (everything they have now is reserved).
you can call them and put your name on the list for their next shipment which should be next week at the markham location. when it arrives they give you a call and then you can go pick it up.
