Pistol: Priming before "belling" the case neck?

Yes, as long as the expanding die doesn't also deprime.

Many progressive presses do this since they bell the mouth and drop powder at the same time through the same die. (Powder through expanding die) The case must therefore be primed first. :D

Some die sets have a deprimer in the resizing die ( LEE, maybe others). Some sets have the deprimer in the die that does the case belling ( RCBS, maybe others), which is usually the second step. What you do, depends on the dies you have, even if your loader is a single stage press. What I usually do on my single stage press is after cleaning and checking my pistol cases. 1. I resize all the cases I have. 2. I bell all the cases I have. 3. I prime all the cases. 4. Now all that is left is to put powder and bullets in and crimp. This method allows me to process as many cases as I have time to process, even though I may have run out of primers and can't get any until tomorrow.

Lee PRO 1000

On pistol cases, the Lee Pro 1000 expands the brass while charging the cartridge, just after the primer has been installed on the precedent downstroke.
So I guess it is Kosher to do so.
Decapping and resizing always precede the belling, charging and seating operations.
