Are these legal for air guns? I can't seem to find any info on it. You see lots of these for sale at shows... I know they are not legal for firearms.

When you say "rug", do you mean a zippered carrying case?

First, is the airgun powerful enough to be classified as a firearm? That would answer your own question.

If the airgun is not a firearm, then do whatever you want with discretion for the sensitivities for onlookers.

It's what I use but there are no regulations and no classification for sub-500 fps air guns.
You could think you are doing the right thing by locking it up with a trigger lock and all the rest of it but you could end up being accused of advertising it as a restricted firearm if you do that. Can't win either way, just be sensible.

Thanks, yes, from what I dug up online it didn't look all that clear, and there's never ending revisions to regulations and individual cop's interpretation.

There are cheat sheets to carry many owners carry in their gun cases that explain the echeloning of trigger locks, disassembly, cases, and ammo depending on type of firearm. It helps reduce confusion should someone go from zero to full escalation at the sight of a cased firearm.
