I recently bought a 24 gun safe to replace some smaller safes and lockers I had. You definitely couldn't fit twenty four guns in the safe comfortably unless they were all very slim. The old safe only had one small shelf so handguns were getting laid on the floor of the safe or almost falling off the shelf.

My new safe has the option to install a half dozen shelf pieces on either of the two divided sides. I don't like these shelves because if I install more than two on one side I can only store really short rifles and shotguns. I am thinking of screwing a bunch of stubby plastic coat hooks onto the safe door. I have to be careful that get dot get caught up on the safes middle divider when I shut the door. My 6" barrelled revolvers tend to hang horizontal when held by the trigger guard so thy are too wide. I would need some way to hang them at a 45 degree angle like a send hook or something.

Anyone has any better storage/display ideas for guns in a safe?

Oh that's pretty neat.

I also found this which would help with keeping the shelves out of the safe.

If you're handy doing a little metal work, here's what I did to give myself some pistol storage space, while still leaving most of the rifle space intact.

The back plate is flat steel and bolted to the door. It's drilled and tapped to receive six 3/8" x 4" rods covered with plastic tubing to protect the pistols. On the bottom is a 3/8" carriage bolt that engages in a notch cut in the length of black iron pipe that acts as a retainer. The pipe has holes drilled in it corresponding to the six rods. The pipe is retained at the top end by a removable shackle lock.
The whole thing looks a little rough, but it's practical.

Couldn't you just put a trigger lock on your pistols then just throw em on the table, and dead bolt the room, so long as there are know other means of entry.
technically I believe this is legal .

I suppose but the room I keep my guns in doesn't have a deadbolt and I bought this safe to store guns in so I was looking for a way to do that.

Feralchild that's a neat idea. I may try making a rack out of wood as I am not that good with metal but that is definitely the sort of thing I am looking for. Cool collection by the way.

FerelChild, that looks like a decent system but over secure. If that is a safe you don't need to have that locking bar over them, also no trigger locks on your rifles. If you like doing it just to stay on the safe side feel free, but most people don't like going overboard. Good on you though for creating your own solution

Probably overkill, but I did it when the safe storage requirements first came out. I wasn't sure if the steel cabinet counted as a "safe", so the locked pistol rack was supposed to substitute for trigger locks. As for the rifles, only the converted autos have trigger locks.

Attach a section of peg board to the inside of the door.

You can then use standard pegbord hangers in any configuration you want. I slip some clear rubber tubeing over the hangers to prevent scratches to the handguns.

I have a scoped buckmark and a ruger 22/45. I picked up a few of the dewalt cordless drill holsters and screwed them to the door backing, holds them pretty nice.
