We are all subject to others opinions of firearms and how they should be regulated or banned or whatever, I'm an artist, and I teach lithography (google it) I have a visiting artist in the studio this week who has a disability that prohibits use of her left arm, but she is interested in shooting but can only shoot pistols, rested or off hand, never the less this leads me to think that handguns serve an important function in aiding those who are not as able as I am, but can still enjoy the sport. Thought that this post may give us another "Arrow in our qiver" as to why handguns should never be banned.

A bipod'd ruger "Charger" or a shortened 10-22 on a bag would be "handy." Usually handguns need two hands, one to hold the firearm and the other to cycle the action. A supported semi automatic rifle could be placed on a bag or supported with a bipod and cycled then GTG with one armed action.

Other than that, a 22 cal revolver would be pretty good.

Edit: I re-read your post and now see what you are really getting at. It would be a good letter.

This is brilliant. There are a number of handicapped shooters capable of shooting with various levels of assistance. Some assistance is virtually always required for safety reasons. When I first read your comments, I thought of assisted shooting of a Ruger MkII with the 10" barrel off a sand bag or pedistal support. I would think many of our subscribers have some experience at some time or other; even a person in a cast becomes handicapped and surely many can speak in terms of personal experience.

she could enjoy benchrest competitions for sure. She can still cycle automatic handguns if some kind of pistol holder is used, I am sure there are more single-handed shooters who would know how to get around with one arm. Well, see this for example

...and that's how Paco shot himself in the arse.

I think I'd want to try that a lot of tiimes with an empty gun before I started speed drills.

I had a similar thought about semi-automatics, when my hand was busted-up: they are legitimate firearms, esp. for those who cannot/find it difficult to actuate the bolt/lever/pump.

Thanks!

Thanks for the responses, I know I take my mobility for granted, it must be a great rush to shoot safely when your disabled, I will show her this thread tomorrow, she will be moved by the support, With luck we have inspired a new shooter. I really believe that disabled shooters are ignored in the debate over handguns in Canada, that should change.
