Classic German rifle with a classic German reticle.
I seem to recall that Zeiss reticle are etched and I haven't heard of any easy or cheap way to change them. You'll probably have to contact a dealer.

I have the same #8 reticle in a Zeiss Victory 1.5-6 scope that I just purchased. I have mixed feelings about the reticle, to my eyes it is too thick on the outside and too thin at the aiming point when used for big game. The fine aiming point should be fine on a varmint rifle though. I e-mailed the Zeiss Canada representative and he sent me a spreadsheet with all the available reticles. NO simple crosshair exists. Excerpt from the e-mail reply:

"Here are the thickness of current reticles in our portfolio. I can see if a special request can be made if any #1 or #2 are still available in spare part inventory.

The heavy portion of the #4 is designed for fast acquisition in low light on moving game. The fine center is for longer precision shots.

Cost for a switch including labor and parts from Germany is approximately $200. "

hope that helps. I'm going to shoot with mine and see if I get used to it.

I have the same reticle on my 9.3x64. When I purchased the rifle I was going to change the reticle. After some range time and playing with it, it is still on the rifle and I may change it to a #4 some day. What I'm saying is it's worked OK for me. Not a tack driver at the range, but not bad, and is better than I thought it would be in the field.

For a reticle change on a Zeiss in Canada call:
GENTEC

They send them to the States and it takes awhile. 6-8 weeks is what I remember them telling me.
