I have read many stories of spectacular African hunts on this site. Well my own dream trip to South Africa is almost here. I fly to Johannesburg next week and will spend three weeks visiting familly there. My uncle has very kindly arranged for me to join him and my cousins on a four day plainsgame hunt in Limpopo province. I have dreamed of hunting in Africa for as long as I can remember and am thrilled that the dream is comming true.

Before heading out hunting we will spend some time in a wildlife preserve so that my relatives can help me become fmilliar with the animals and I can get used to spotting them in the bush. We will be hunting in fairly thick mopane bush, so shots will likely be close and quick. I am hoping that becoming familiar with the game and the country before heading out on the hunt will help me keep a cool head when it's time to shoot.

I am told that expected game in our hunting area includes Impala, Blue Wildebeest, Eland, Kudu and Gemsbuck. As several of us are sharing the hunt we will likely take only one or two animals each, which is fine with me as even when I am not behind the trigger I will still be hunting in the African bush with my familly. My cousin is set on an Eland as it will fill his freezer with about 500 kilos of meet, personally the top of my wishlist is a Kudu or Gemsbuck.

I know that I will inevitably be told that this thread is useless without pictures, so I promise to update it with some when I return.

Congratulations! Prepare for a life-changing experience.

If you already have all the money that you need to pay for this trip, then you'd better start saving for the next one...because you're gonna want to go back!

You got that right... I'm trying to convince my wife hunting Africa annually is a family tradition. Tough sell when last year was the first, and this year the second occurrence of said tradition. You have to start somewhere.

Frankly, I will be back to Africa a good deal, I'm sure after this year's hunt. But I will be hunting elsewhere abroad before an African repeat, likely something like what Dogleg's up to in Oz shortly.

You will enjoy yourself - hunted in Limpopo twice. Word of advice is follow your South African relatives advice on shot placement - top of the front leg on most of the animals. The gemsbuck can be a tough "critter" if you try and shoot him like a whitetail or mulie you will be chasing him through the bush. Kudu is an awesome animal. Lets see your pictures when you get back to the Great White North.
