Plane hit Giraffe...

My step dad works for a medivac airline and sees a fair share of collisions with wildlife up north. It's to bad to see these animals wasted over something as simple as putting up a fence..

Thought about posting it there...lots of Nancy's there tho that spend too much time with their cats and frown at dead animal pictures.

Anyone know/heard the story behind this pic?

Reminds me of a time about 10 years ago when I was custom spraying crops. I was bsing with one of the crop dusters about how his week had been while waiting for water. He said not good I hit a canoe last weekend. I asked how the heck do you hit a canoe when you fly a plane. He said "when you are too low to a road at the end of a field and its strapped to the roof of a mini van".

I saw this posted on AR some time back. As I recall, the plane was either taking off or landing, and the giraffe just wandered into the narrow airstrip cut into the brush too late for the pilot to avoid it.

I forget where they originally found the item, but they reprinted many of the original comments on this series of photos. You would not believe the number of anti-hunting lunatics who were convinced that the blood-thirsty pilot hit that critter purposely!

This happens more then most realize unfortunately,,,

A buddy of mine was flying (buzzing) a large field at a very low altitude just above the tall grass when a group of deer sprung up from there resting spot, it was a very close miss and a good lesson learned by both of us,,,

I'm betting it was struck on take off, as avoiding stuff on landing isn't all that difficult, I've had to do it several times...........but taking off is a whole 'nother ball game, especially on short bush strips and in the African heat..........real nightmare.
Never mind poor giraffe...........poor 206, mucho damage, I'd be some choked if it were my 206. Would probably make me want to thin the giraffe down a whole bunch around the airstrip.
