Hi Guys,

Planning to build an AR and have been browsing around the various brands. I see mostly new whole guns within the $2,000 range.

I also noticed that SOCOM has some complete uppers that are selling for $2,000. They do look much better with the rails and etc. In terms of functionality or accuracy. Do they make a lot of difference? Should I buy complete AR or upper lower seperately.

Thanks

ive built two...one from all individual parts and assembled myself, and then put together a lower and threw on a complete upper. Ive sold the first one (14.5") and am tricking out my 16" constantly!!!!

Things you'd want to look at for individual parts

Lower: Stripped or Complete (Stag, RRA, Colt, etc..) talk to arms east, questar
Upper: Length (shorty, mid-length, full-length) it depends on what you want to do with it really. talk to walter at arms east would be your best bet
Rails: You dont need to order a complete upper to get cool rails. Check out stuff from Daniel Defence, Larue, or any number of other mentioned on the forums
Stocks: Go collapsible (Magpul is pretty sweet)
Mags: Whatever you can get your hands on these days
Optics: Iron sights are solid, but if you want to go for LCF check out EoTech or Acog

Just browse the forums and take a look at other people's builds in the AR-15 pictures thread and see what you like.

Building one for the first time taught me a lot about how everything interacts with each other and you can build it your specs the first time. Ive been continually updating the furniture on mine until it fits my eye. Im on the third set of stock, grip, handguards/rails...lol:D

talk to arms east is the best bet, he'll set you up with exactly what you're looking for, and great customer service!

good luck!

chris

Dlask Arms is another source you could try. You might want to go with a stripped lower instead of an 80% stripped lower - which has been a PITA for me so far. I might have to junk it.

Thanks Chris, that is a lot of information to digest.
Something like this suits my taste http://www.socomsupply.ca/details.php?id=69.
I will give our dealers a call and see what they have to offer.
