Plastic trigger guards- Who's broken one?

Hi everyone, with all the posts on 870 express and mossy 500's a key point always comes up, that they have a plastic trigger guard. is this really an issue? has anyone (no, not your buddy, you) ever broken one?

I don't expect you'll get any real first-hand affirmative replies here. Today's high quality plastics are damn-near indestructable. Would the polymer trigger guards be any more prone to breakage than your average Glock/HK/XD/etc. frame?
 
I suspect if you grabbed the shotgun by the muzzle and swung downwards on a rock or concrete, trigger guard out, then the plastic one would get destroyed and shatter but the aluminum one might not.

Obviously I prefer the aluminum, but I am content with my plastic one and don't lose sleep over it :D

No, I've never broken one or seen one break.

I'd be willing to bet the aluminum version would be equally trashed, possibly other parts as well on both guns. I have a couple of older Mossbergs (1960's) with not so modern plastic trigger guards. If you overtighten the screws holding them in place, its easy enough to crack them. Breaking them while in use? I've never done it or seen anyone else do it.
 
I broke a "plastic" tigger guard on a beater 22. I have a 870 express which has been knocked a few times and never had a problem. I think some of the cast alloy, pot metal parts on other guns are more likely to break.

Thanks for the input. So i guess with this info, whether a particular model has a plastic or metal trigger guard is irrelevant in practical terms of durability. Her comes my mossy 500 combo:dancingbanana:

Not a 870 but plastic trigger guard on my Remington ML700 split where the front (larger) screw holds it to the stock/action, replaced by Remington for a metal one. I saw two other ML700 that had same problem and repaired under warranty. One was split taken out of the box new. The 870 trigger guard is not secured in the same manner.
