Is some play something to worry about on a cantilever barrel when installed on a pump action? When shooting the gun last season the accuracy was acceptable but I didn't notice that the barrel had some play between the receiver and now it has me kinda worried.

I've heard the term cantilever used to describe bridges, airplane wings and a few other things but never to describe a shotgun barrel, I suppose it makes some sense when you think about it.

All pump gun barrels will have some degree of play in the receiver but it would take quite a bit to affect acuracy for wing shooting, slugs may be a different story.

The scope is on the barrel should not be a problem but you can pin the barrel to the reciever with a set screw .I done that on a 870.

Interesting, you only pierce through the receiver but not through the barrel I imagine?

Pinning the barrel to the receiver works well. Remington did this from the factory with the Super Slug version of the 870's. I once bought a used 870 fully rifled slug gun off a guy at a gun show that had epoxied the barrel to the receiver. Kinda crazy way to do it but it did shoot well. I eventually did get it apart with a heat gun and had the barrel pinned to make takedown easier.
