So I've been working up some loads for my Xbolt in 7mm-08. Decided to use 140gr Accubonds and TTSX's. Powder choice was Varget. I have other powders on hand but getting close to season opener so I figured I would try to find the winning combo with Varget and these bullet combo's.
Nosler book load shows 42gr being the max load for the Accubond. My rifle liked 41 gr the best. Shooting them under a half inch.
With the help of a fellow CGN'r and his On Target software it showed the near max on the barnes to be 41.8. Once again my gun really liked 41gr of varget. Got the Barnes just under an inch. Not as tight as the accubonds but still pretty good. Strange thing was the Barnes were hitting about 1.5" higher then the Accubonds. Anyone know why? Less pressure on the barnes due to the grooves? I would assume the barnes were coming out hotter.
I really wanted to use the barnes but don't have enough range time to play with other powders but think I'm gonna go with the Accubonds.
None of these loads showed any signs of pressure. Even the book max. But seems my rifle likes 41gr of varget the best with either of them.
