Please compare, advise and suggest

Call me old fashioned but my affection for the 7mm has receded since I got my .270, which has killed everything on earth, that's right even elephants! Not that I would use it on one, but it has been done.

Don't mention to Lori anything about Rifles,... I want to surprise her with one this winter or late fall...she was supposed to have her PAL done by now...
She's home in NL for a couple weeks now,... I'm planning to pop up and surprise her last of November early December...

Any snow yet???

Not a flake. Its still about 7-12 degrees Celcius here this week. Mums the word about guns to Lori. Speaking of mums, how's your Nan? Haven't heard from Lori in about 6 weeks or so. Heard there was a bit of a scare recently. Hope all is well.
Maybe we can get out and look for a moose while you are here, or at least some grouse or something. (You can use my .444 to try it out)
Moose season here is from Sept 1 to Jan 31. Useless until the first snow if you ask me. Tracking them up here is like finding a needle in a haystack until the snow. Just too much real estate up here.

I like all the 7mm cases, but find the 7mm Rem Mag to be my top pick..

But at the ranges you suggest, there is no advantage one over the other, for 95% of the hunting situations you will ever come by period, one will work as good as the other...just my 2 cents

As good a pick as any, I bet there is still room for a big bore lever in the locker though....
What is the selection of factory ammo like down your way for the 7mm-08?? Is it almost strictly a handloaders round?? I personally have never seen any stores that had some in stock.

There's a fair bit of 7mm-08 tsx,..Federal I believe, and some hornady as well,..but at least 4 or 5 different rounds and stuff...

I won't have the 7mm-08 in hand for about another month or so,..but I did get to use one a few years ago and again about 6 months ago..

I have had 2 45/70's and a 450 ... loved em all... but Sask in not the place for them,, hopefully I'll be totoing the 450 for a bit of fun in 3 weeks or so,..she's in a safe in GP ,...lonely:D

I have a big bore Marlin Golden Mounty 39A as well:D

I once had an 8mm mag and that gun turned me off from magnums for quite some time...

I also hopped on the WSSM train fo a year with the 223 wssm and the 243 ..

One rifle I should never have let go of was my CZ 550 22-250...

ahh,...the life of what interests you at the moment...

Only when rigormortis sets in........She's 44 years old, and looks like she was made yesterday. I have too many regrets from horse trading the last few years. (selling one to buy one), and this 444 will go in my coffin , I hope.
.450's are a gun I'd like to pull the trigger on. Never seen one up close.
LOVE those Golden Mounties.......Favorite rimfire on the earth. Always on the lookout for one. (hint hint)

The 39A goes in my coffin :D

looks like you're gonna be better prepared for the afterlife than me....:D:D

When I get up there I'll bring the 450 and the Mounty... she's a beauty,..the golden trigger and french stock,...ahhhhhhh....:)

All those .284 bore rounds work fine but if you don't handload the 7mm mag should get the nod due to the fact that heavier bullets are available in factory loads for it.
Narrow and long bullets= higher sectional density= wading more meat
Look at the record of the relatively mild 7x57 on huge game over the last 120 years with 175 grain bullets.

I've always kept an eye out for a good 7x57. Something about the round just makes me want it. And I know that with good handloads, it can be something really decent. 7mm diameter bullets are always a good choice, especially when you end up having to reach out further than usual. After I aquire my 25-06 or .270 (whichever I find first thats affordable and in good condition) I am definately getting a .280 Rem. I want a smaller caliber for those pesky wolves up here. They have a knack for staying far enough away to frustrate. Only had luck using a borrowed 25-06, and have wanted one ever since. Cant wait to get a peek at the .450 , monster hot loaded big bores are the cats meow.
