Car wax. Sounds silly, but it works. The good wax stuff, smells like crayons with a hint of motor oil. Not the cheapo cleaner waxes, they don't have enough real wax in them.

Scrub in with a tooth brush, let dry, wipe off, repeat. Do it about every two years on my express finished guns, really does the trick.

I agree with romurra with the caution on the cleaner waxes which may contain a hint of rubbing compound. You could also search the home wood workers sites/forums. Many tabel saws, jointers and planers have large unfinished cast iron surfaces. In unheated garages or dampish basement shops, rust control can be a nightmare. You can find many tips for rejuvenation and prevention. The waxes recommended there would lean towards wood friendly types and one could do the whole gun, lock stock and barrel.

I've been treating my express 870 with fluid film after every wet outing.

Wipe off, dry by radiator, apply FF and voila, ready to go again.

I have a new unused 870, it has the same pebbled finish, I recently noticed a brownish patina to it, all the other stuff is fine, you are right it is very susceptible to rust. I slathered it in fluid film, but not really impressed

I have been using Minwax on Guns and shop tools..The top is cast iron and I wax it 1 time a year....Also I use it on all my firearms..Canadian Tire is where I buy it..
