Hello gents,

I am building a C3A1 (Look alike) and all I need is a good barrel. Here is the question of the day. What caliber do you guys recommend? Yes i will be reloading my own rounds hence why I posted in here. I entertained the thought of making a C3A1 replica BUT if i'm going to spend a fair amount of money to do so i'd like to get a little more out of it.

Right now i was suggested 7WSM or any 7mm do to flatter trajectories and overall ballistics.

If you are going to use a Mauser 98 as the basis for your rifle, you will avoid feeding and bolt face issues if you were to choose the .280 Remington. Ballistically I doubt if you could make use of the difference between the .280 and either 7 mag.

The more input on this the better guys, rather get knowledge and experience rather that stats on a piece of paper.
