Hi

new to all this so please have some patience. Looking for a package deal recently recieved my rpal back in the post and am now looking for a starting place.
I think an sks would be a good start however I like the tactical look so would like a ati type stock and well of course ammo. So where can I go for a deal on the firearm, stock and some ammo to get me going.

Lever Arms in Vancouver is probably your best source for the rifle and ammo. Currently offering the rifle and a crate of ammo for $350. They have a website.

The aftermarket stock is more difficult since the SKS's are so popular that they tend to fly out the door.. Try the Fabsports link at the top of this page.
 
The SKS is awesome fun. You don't have to buy packages to get a good deal. Its probably better to get the ammo more locally cause longer shipping distance means bigger shipping bill. Marstar, Lever Arms, Milarm, Moving Target, Westrifle all have SKS
 
SKS = Awesome starter (if a .22 doesn't cut it for you). Cheap ammo, low recoil, tough, rugged, reliable rifle. Good luck. Make sure you get a Russian!

Don't forget about good cleaning habits. Or else the corrosive surplus ammo will rust up the rifle :p

Try not to deal with Lever Arms if you are doing this through the internet, you can't choose the condition of the rifle.
 
Try going into a Gunstore then you can actually choose your SKS. a friend of mine went into milarm in edmonton and literally got to choose his from almost 100 they had in stock.

and definately pick up the 7.62x39 locally, theshipping on a heavy crate wouldnt be worth it, some places will give you a deal if you buy the gun and ammo together, they usually throw in all the accessories as well.

Also may i suggest as a beginner picking up a .22 as well. the cheapest ammo and its great for improving accuracy.
 
I still consider myself somewhat new and my 10/22 comes with me on every range trip. Whether I'm shooting mt SKS, Rem 700, or 17HMR, you just can't beat the price. Fun, no recoil and great trigger time for practice.

Wolverine isn't far from you. Shipping from them wouldn't be bad. I'm not sure if they carry SKS and 7.62 x 39 but it's worth looking into
