You might want to try the Nitro Express forums, there's a few Verney Carron guy's on there that might be of help.

Also try the Tradex (sponsoring dealer) they are a Verney Carron Dealer, and may be able to help with Values.

Whatever you do please make sure it gets a good home, and is appreciated! I would take it to one of the upper end consignment houses if you want to sell! Very expensive gun, wish I were in your shoes! Thanks for the nice pictures! Dale Z!

I saw your post on Nitro Express with the picture of the barrel flats and this isn't a Verney Carron. There are no French proofmarks. The gun has Spanish proofmarks including a maker's mark for Zabala Hermanos and a date code of Z1 which indicates it was made in 1980.

The barrel marking "Gunmark Kestrel" was helpful. Here are links to two very similar guns.

Here's a link to a PDF with European proof marking to confirm.

Price for this gun would be in the $700-$900 range in Canada depending on condition.

The sidelock appears to be nicely finished though......other than the handling marks, from what is visible of the top lever, the shotgun doesn't appear to have been shot much. Resurrects the saying that goes with Basque guns that it is the gun and not the maker.

Depending on overall condition that case (leather?) should likely also fetch something around the $150-$175 range.

The case looks like an older Emmebi case that would be in the same age range as the gun. Emmebi provides many of the cases for the Spanish gun trade. That estimate isn't out of line for the case.

Claybuster your right on the button. Its a Zabala and a nice 5 pin side-lock. The fit and finish is not the best with checkering over-runs and some issues (wood to metal) around the locks --- a desirable gun non the less.
Cheers!
