The .44 magnum has been around since the 50s, so I am looking to find out what rifles, past and present are chambered for the .44 magnum pistol cartridge. Lever, bolt, what have you.
If anyone has experience using any of these with any type of ammo, factory or reloads, is welcome to weigh in with your comments.

Have the 77/44, very fun gun indeed!
But it will only shoot 210grain bullets or lighter accurately.
My rifle simply hates ANY bullet in 240 grain. Darn it!
That is "THE" weight I wanted to use as a standard.

44 mag

I've got a Marlin 1894 in stainless
Marlin also puts it out in a blue 1894 and cowboy version in 44 Rem Mag

I've taekn several deer with mine and so has my daughter

We're both left handed so it's a great little shooter for where we hunt
Everything is usually under 100m
I 've got a red DOt scope on it for quick aim with both eyes open

If you're looking for just a fun shooter Chippa Firearms also make a Mare's Leg version ( 12'' barrel model 1892 ) in 44 Mag

Ruger also made a Carbine ( older model no longer made ) 18.5 '' barrel in 44 mag with tube magazine ...great shooter under 50 m with open sights

I've got one of those too

good luck

Denis

I guess I should add I have a Trapper version of the Winchester AE 94, and I'm pretty sure quite a few others on CGN have the same one. (circa 1982ish)
It's quite remarkably accurate and some small groups with .44 Special at 50 yards are kind of surprizing. IIRC, using the factory sights this little carbine's sights are max'ed out at 200 yards, with magnum factory 240 grain jacketed ammunition. I confirmed this on paper targets only.

Had a blued Marlin 1894 .44Mag many years ago that was fun to shoot, but swapped it for a dirt bike one summer. Stupid kid. A couple years ago we had a raffle at work and lo & behold I won a stainless Marlin 1894 .44Mag :) This one is staying.

Must have a slow twist and can't stabilize the heavy bullets.

That's not too handy since the standard bullet weight in .44 Mag is 240 grains.

My Rossi Puma and my Ruger 96/44 have no problem with 240 and 265 grain bullets either SP or cast.

That's a good number of makers for sure. Food for thought.
Hey, dthunter, thats just the sort of extra info I'm looking for. I would want to be able to shoot 240 grainers accurately as well. I also want to use my hard cast bullets. I wonder if anyone else is having trouble with the 77/44 using 240s.?

I just bought a Chiappa Mares Leg (12" barrel) in 44 r mag., but waiting until xmas day to shoot it for the first time. Can hardly wait. We also have a ruger semi auto and my wife has the 94 winchester trapper with 16" barrel.

Mine shoots 265/270 grain reloads very well and Hornady Leverevolution best of the factory offerings. The 77/44 has a comparatively fast twist at 1:20 while the Marlin 1894 is 1:38.

Virtually everyone has a horror story about 1 or more firearms that they have owned. He's my lever horror story;

In '94 I was looking for a lever in .357 because I was doing alot of .357 shooting out of my M66 and wanted a cheap and easy round that I could reload in abundance. After looking around for about 6-8 months I couldn't find one, I even phoned Winchester! The nice lady said that they didn't have enough calls to start manufacturing them again. Remember this was before Cowboy Action got bigger.

I finally gave up on .357 and found a Winchester Wrangler in .44 Magnum. Shades of John Wayne that large loop lever was kewl! Little did I realize that with 2 years, I'd start shooting Cowboy Action. I did lots of testing and came up 7.2 grains of Unique pushing a 240 grain LSWC bullet as an accurate target load.

Within the first 20 rds down range, the pot metal feed ramp broke. Off for warranty work! Eight months later I get the rifle back. After every 50 rds the rear sight elevator would fall off. So we have to install a Williams rear sight! Shooting again after every 50 rds the screws in the receiver would work loose. Locktite!! After 1,500 rds the tubular magazine spring gave up the ghost! Wolfe Gunsprings to the rescue. After this the Lever Link broke, 3 months and 5 nasty letters later, Winchester told me they would sell me the part but without warranty! They wanted me to send the gun to the warranty centre again!

That was the last straw, I found a sucker to buy the Winchester and bought a Marlin M1894S, after 8,000 rds through it, it broke a firing pin. I love the quality Marlin builds in.

P.S. My Wrangler was one of 4 Wranglers in town with the same problems.

I have a 16" bbl Rossi R92 .44 Mag that I've fired hundreds of rounds through without an issue except that metal butt plate really hammers my small shoulders. These are available reasonable cheap though I haven't seen any on line or on store gun racks lately.

I have a 18" bbl Ruger 96/44 that is a dream to shoot and is much easier on the shoulder but alas they don't make em any more.
