You bought a scope in the USA and brought it here? I thought we couldn't. Or am I mistaken?

Optical weapon sights are controlled for export. It can be done legally if the appropriate permits are applied for and granted. It does get done without by people who know and take a chance and people who don't know and just don't get noticed by the enforcers.

I've never heard of anyone getting arrested or questioned by bringing scopes across. I even did a quick google search and nothing showed up. I know plenty of guys in Estevan, Weyburn and Moose Jaw bring back scopes all the time. I don't bother as I can find them on CGN for just as good of price.
Its also illegal to spit on our sidewalks in Moose jaw but there has never been anyone charged.
I could be very wrong but maybe someone can post an article of guys getting busted smuggling Leupolds, bushnells..trashco's or something of that nature, would like to read the article.

Cheers!!

you have a point
but would you take the chance?

I looked into it and was told it was fine since it was under $100. Let's not turn this into another export/import thread. If you want to do that go to the legalese forum.

Yup. This isn't an "I violated US federal law by exporting a regulated product illegally" thread, its a "My Tasco product broke, so none of you should buy a Tasco product" thread.

"Under $100" isn't the whole story. The U.S. regulations affect some types of equipment regardless of price. I'm pretty sure riflescopes are an example, so personally I would verify that before trying to take a 'scope out of the U.S. The $100 rule is that firearms parts and accessories that aren't specifically regulated can be exported without applying for specific permits if the total value is under $100, but once the value goes over that you need to apply for permits even for items that aren't specifically mentioned.
