I'd get the SPS Varmint if your not shooting way more than 300 yards.

Get the Tactical if you plan on using heavier loads.

I bought a sps varmint in .223 a few years ago. Right out of the box it was making serious craters in the primers of multiple different kinds of ammo. Sent it away to Remington twice and they couldn't seem to fix it. They offered me a new one but I took the money and spent a little extra and got the tikka t3 varmint. I never looked back. Also the stock on the remmy is junk. I know Remington's are great guns this is just my crappy experience.

Also after trying it I'll never buy a gun with a hinged floor plate again.
