What's the budget? Savage or CZ452 is nice with Bushnell Scope

I've not used any, but I'm going to second the CZ as a target gun. From what I've read on the forums, the CZ's seem to get good reviews as far as an accurate target rifle right out of the box, especially when compared to the 10/22. The Savage also has the benefit of the Accutrigger (I don't know if all models have them), so you could easily fine-tune the trigger pressure to your needs...

However, in the interests of getting more replies: Are you open to used guns too? You might be able to get a nicer used one for the same price as a new decent one... How much do the Anschutz rifles go for?

Do you want a pure target rifle or a sporter/hunter with some target capability?
If your price range is $800 . . . CZ's will fit your liking and leave enough room for a reasonable scope.
A pure target rifle, something you will not be packing on a gopher hunt.
CZ's (452, 453 and 455) come in American sporter configuration as well as varmint models which are only marginally heavier.
Both are magazine fed and have a level of quality capable of 1/2 inch groups at 50 yards and will outlast you where it could find a place in your will!

Horseman,

I will be using it for target only....no hunting or anything of the like.

I'll have a look at the models you suggested and thanks very much for the detailed reply.

Best bang for the buck is a CZ, next up would be a Savage. Another one which I have not personally shot, but have heard good things about is a Medved Russian target rifle from teapot2 on here. If you want a semi I would recommend a Remington 597 over a Ruger10/22.

Forgot to add for a scope, Leupold is great, but will exceed your stated budget. you will get a great deal on an older scope, new, but older model, at your LGS generally, I bought a Leupold for 300$ once.

I second the CIL Anschutz 190 I shoot with a couple of them and the shoot good. But if you want to go even better look for a Match 54 Anschutz, a Suhl 150 or my preference a nice Remington 40X but any of these will fetch a premium on the price.
