I recently bought a new Beretta over/under which I really like but can't seem to figure out the choke tube thing.

I assumed it was Optima chokes as they advertise on their website yet when I bought additional Optima extended tubes for it they don't fit. The threads are almost twice as long on the extended tubes as they are on the ones that came with the gun.

Is my gun equipped with Mobilchokes? If not, what did it come with? If they are Mobilchokes, can I purchase Beretta extended tubes for it? When did Beretta switch over to Optima from Mobil?

Somebody please enlighten me!!!

Sounds like your gun has mobilchokes. Yes you may purchase extended tubes for the mobilchoke system. I am not sure of the year that Optima was introduced, but I think that some models are still available in the mobilchoke. I have shot both and presently have a couple with the Optima system, which I really like, but I am not convinced that the Optima system is better than the mobil system. Just different. Sort of like white wall tires. Does not make a difference where the road meets the rubber. That's about as enlightened as I get.

Thanks for the input.:)

I kind of thought that they were Mobilchokes but wasn't sure.

I should have stated in my original post that the gun is a 682 Gold E Skeet.

Check out the choke tube sticky at shotgunworld.com in the Beretta forum:

Beretta currently uses (or recently has used) 3 different choke tube types on different models of shotguns. They can be identified by the image below. Note that all the tubes pictured here are flush tubes. There are several styles of extended tubes with different styles of extension, but the part of an extended tube that goes inside the barrel will match one of the flush tubes illustrated below.

Thanks Mike!:)

Mine are definitely Mobilchokes.

Is that the normal (Mobilchoke) choke configuration in a new 682 or did I get sold an old gun?

According to my 2008-2009 Beretta Annual, the 682 GOLD E SKEET is Optimachoke or Extended Optimachoke. I gave away my previous catalog but the currant product number is J682E40. If you still have the box your gun came in, check the number. With either choke system, the 682 is a fine gun.

I can't say but there is also a year of manufacture sticky there you can use to decode your serial number.

Thanks to your link Mike, I found that my gun was manufactured and/or exported in 2008. It was by proof marks though and not serial number.:)

Thanks for the link to an excellent site Mike!!!:dancingbanana:
