This is an early 16 gauge Winchester Model 1912, serial number 958XX. The barrel is stamped "nickel steel" and has a raft of patent numbers stamped on it. Does anyone here know the year of manufacture of this gun, based on the serial number? Thanks in advance for any information you may have to offer.

According to the serial numbers listed in the Blue Book of Gun Values this gun was made in 1915. What's the chamber length on this gun? As I recall early 16 gauge Model 12s had short chambers.

Thanks, Claybuster. The gun does indeed have a short chamber - 2 9/16th inches. This does not worry me as I can produce the required shells. I won't shoot it that much anyway. The gun is in good shape, and appears to be original except for a refinished butt stock, and a vented Polychoke installed, which I believe to be aftermarket, as the barrel is stamped "Full". I don't know anything about Polychokes, except that they could be ordered on some model 12's. Thanks again.
