So i finally tracked down a new scope for my crossbow and got a Twilight DLX from Excalibur.

While everything seems fine with it (it sat in the mailbox for hours in -10 and then i brought it inside and didnt notice any condensation inside). The glass looks clear and the reticles light up properly. My issue is with the edges of the glass when seen from inside. It is hard to explain and i cant for the life of me get a picture that shows the issue.

There is a small ring inside the scope that looks like where the glass sits against the tube, it has a halo effect when the reticle is illuminated. Thats not an issue for me but what i noticed is that it is not uniform. The majority of the halo is solid and crisp and uniform but on one side it looks frosted/cracked/fractured. Not much but it is clearly not the same as the rest of the ring.

Has anyone seen this before? Is this to be expected with a sub 300 dollar scope?

Edit: managed to get some actual shots to focus on the issue.

Thanks!

I think that you are seeing the light reflecting off the inside of the tube that the reticle is mounted in (erector tube?).

Visible in use, or only when lit up and you start dicking around looking at odd angles?

Being as it is a single point of light for the illumination, I would not be too surprised to find something like this.

Plus it's a 300$ scope. I'm far from a scope snob, but I'm not surprised to see what looks like assembly issues on the lower end. Personally I'd be trying to see if vendor would take it back.

Poor craftsmanship. My father has gone thru several of those scopes on his middleton xbow. They generally loose tracking or the erector assembly falls apart

Sorry for the late reply on this thread, yes it is visable at all times. It almost seems like glue residue or something.

Brybenn, that is what i was affraid of, some kind of defect. Ill send it in for replacement and hope for the best.
