I have a set of Norinco commander 1911's, one 9 mm and the other is 45 ACP. Other then barrel length, at first glace they look identical. then you look down the sights and they are not the same either. I have already spend a few weeks jumping threw hoops looking for a set of grip that were not so over priced they make my wallet bleed ( got to love paying $100 bucks for $35 grips, just cause your a Canadian). Finally I went down to LEE VALLEY bought some hard wood and made my own, surprisingly not as hard as I originally expected, maybe I just over thought it!
After spending some time sending lead down range I noticed both operate flawlessly but the mags only hold 4 or 5 rounds, If I'm not mistaken my Beretta held 10. so I need new mags. Not to mention the 45 come with two different kinds of mags and one does not feed worth a damn. I would also like to add base pads to all my mags, in hops that they don't self destruct when I inevitable drip them! a set of mag wells would also make me happy.

SO HERE's MY SHOPPING LIST
FULL SIGHT SET's
10 ROUND MAG's (9 mm and 45 ACP)
MAG BASE's
MAGWELL's

And before you start....... Yes i know the they are NORINCOs! and they are cheap, and add the extra stuff I am looking to add will prob cost more then the pistols are worth, but so are most of the rims and stereos on all the import cars running around town.

SO I ASK YOU AND ALL YOUR KNOWLEDGE TO POINT ME IN THE RIGHT DIRECTIONS.

Okay...here's what I know... Right now, Marstar has some pretty nice looking cocobolo grips for $40, and really, 1911 grips aren't that hard to come by. check out your local gun and sporting good stores. I saw several inexpensive types at Wholesale Sports [Calgary] just last week.

10-round 1911 mags might be hard to find, but 8-rounders are fairly common. I have some from Mec-Gar and Dlask, and they're pretty decent, not too expensive. Mag base pads aren't expensive...Brownell's has a bunch of different styles. You sound like you enjoy improvising, so find some thick rubber padding and epoxy and make your own. I made some out of 1/4" sole leather once and they worked fine. Also, if the mags you have only hold 5 rounds, there is something seriously wrong with them. Take them apart, clean them out and remove any burrs on the follower and interior of the mag body. Standard mags should hold 7 rounds, but I'm sure you knew that....

Sight sets: Norincos use non-standard dovetails for rear sights, so you are looking at laying out some bucks to get proper dovetails machined into the slides. There are other threads here discussing who will do that for you, so look around. I'm going to be looking into that myself, by and by. Sight sets themselves are not hard to find if you aren't particular about the exact style. Otherwise, Brownell's has a bunch, and I don't think standard sights fall under the $100 export rule [tritium night sights may be a problem tho'].

Mag wells: Again, try Brownell's. I'm aware of two styles of well....one incorporates a replacement mainspring housing [expensive] and the other one simply hooks onto the grip screw bushings on the frame [less expensive]. There are several forum sponsors that do gunsmithing, and I'd be approaching them for parts and advice. Good luck!

Good news: rumor has it the $100 export rule will soon be upped to $500... Check the Legalese forum for info. I'm pretty sure sights are ok for export, though I know any sort of scope is out. Good luck!

Never hurts to throw a WTB in the EE, I searched for 10rd CH power 10s, nothing so was like what's the harm, put a WTB, hour later guys like I got 10 x 10rd CH power 10mags new. Did that for grips and other parts.

That would be good news but it has been a rumour for awhile now. To the OP, Brownell's is your best bet for 1911 parts c

Got a really nice set of wood grips from Ebay for my Norc 1911C. It came from Thailand and fit really well. I paid $38 shipped for it, and it took about two weeks to get here. The cutout on the right side panel even fit the ATI ambi safety that I bought from Brownells to swap into the gun.

I had previously bought a set of wood grips for my CZ 75B-SA, and that one was really nicely finished and fit well also.

norinco makes a real nice set of rubber grips for the 1911a1 pistol. It is a copy of the colt style wrap around grip.

Marstar is selling some nice 1911 grips. Picked up a set and put them on my Norinco and it looks totaly different now, and did not cost that much.

I buy my .45 mags from Wolverine, they have 8-round ACT mags for $18. My Norky likes them. I've bought other parts from Fusion and they are great. I've found their standard bushing is a very snug drop-in for my Norky. My grips were also from Fusion, no they aren't fancy material but they were like $30 and are nice and grippy, exactly the way a grip set should be.
