I have had this old rifle in my safe for 50 years. I don't know what the translation of the stamping is, and the origin of this rifle. A friend told me that it might be a Persian Palace Guard rifle, but the writing looks to me more Indian or SoutEast Asian than Arabic.
Does anyone recognize the stamping? Thanks in advance for any advice.

Appears to be a No. 1 Mk III* made for the King of Siam.

Just FYI Longbranch was a Canadian factory that never made the No. 1. BSA stands for Birmingham Small Arms and I believe they made all 10 000 rifles for the Siam contract.

Pls remove

Only 10,000 made on the contract as stated earlier by Leg.
Again thanks very much for all the help from this forum. I have another Milsurp that has also been in my safe for 50 years, and I will dig it out and take some pics to see who can identify that one as well!
