Please help me identify this action

I picked up this single shot action at a gun show. The seller had no idea of it's origin. Some parts are machined from bar stock, others are castings like the lever.

Its a farquharson action. Single shot falling block. Like the Ruger No.1 action.

Why do you say that? I'm not trying to be a jerk, but it sure looks like one to me.

Looked up photos of the Farquharson in deHaas. Quite different. Farquharson had a flat mainspring which extended along a lower tang; had a long upper tang as well. Also, look at the safety on this one. Very different. Uses an Allen head screw. There also appear to be Allen head screws holding the firing mechanism frame together. Farquharsons were patented in 1872.

It looks very similar to the single shot falling block rifle action plans designed by Walter B Mueller. Although they are not the same they do follow the same lines that that many of the homebuilt rifle actions tend to use that I have investigated. My best guess would be that someone was building there own action possibly from plans or there own plans.

I didn't even notice the safety, good point. I guess I should have been a little clearer when I said it was a Farquharson action. I didn't mean an original action, but a copy of it. Even at that it appears as though I was still wrong.

It appears to be a Hoch action or a copy. These are/were used by some cast bullet and shutzen shooters.
