Hi,

Please help identifying this stock, would really like to know what it is, thanks for taking the time!

have more pics with measurements, but overall length is 41 inches, can take specific measurements and pics if needed.

It's a reworked/bubba'd GEW 98 stock. Take down disk hole looks plugged. The comb was modified to look "Win M70ish". The bottom of the butt was trimmed and grip modified for a grip-cap. Butt pad added. The forearm was sanded down (you can tell because the grasping grooves get shallower towards the front giving it a cone shape). The front barrel band was cut in half to make two bands. You can still see the stacking hook. The bayonet lug was chopped off also.

Definitely a Mauser stock Bubba's been at. What's the whitish line at the grip? Almost looks like the butt stock was epoxied on.

Thank you very much for the responses, will have a closer look at mausers for sure!

To answer the question about the white lines, it just looks like some white paint transfer from rubbing against a white door or something similar.
The wood is one piece and very healthy, no gluing or chunks missing etc. certainly a good candidate for adding a barrelled action to!
Would really like to get to the bottom of this, as the stock is in good shape and if I can find out exactly what fits in there I would seriously consider filling it so to speak, I think it would be a great one of a kind. i do have a few other display items that are also functional, would be nice to add this piece to the "lot"

Will keep checking but please keep the guesses coming as I want to be sure before I commit to buying something that doesnt fit.

Best regards,

Beavermeat,

It looks like you were right on! The more I look at gew 98's the more indications I find..., would you know how long the barreled action would be in inches from the backend of the tang to the muzzle crown? Where would I be able to find measurement details??

Thanks!

I assume a 29" barreled Mauser 98 action will fit right in.

The distance between the action screw holes should be 7-7/8" (7.83") centre to centre.

Edit: if I were you I wouldn't spend the money on a GEW 98 barreled action unless you were to use a un-modified stock to restore it.

I would find a K98 barreled action that's been sporterized and shorten the forearm to suit.

That is an awesome recommendation on the sporterized 98, how much would I be looking at approximately to spend on a barrelled action? What would be a reasonable price and besides EE where would you suggest I should look for one?

thanks!
