Please help the new guy figure out which rings to mount a scope.

So I got my big boy pants on in case I take any flak for this.
I would like to fit a Sightron Slll/30mm tube and 56mm objective on a PGW Coyote which should be arriving any day now.
I've been trying to figure it out the past couple days unsuccessfully.
At the beginning I thought I had it all figured out to use large rings until I saw videos and posts about people using medium height rings.
I was wondering if someone can still help me figure out what I need to mount the scope properly or if I should wait until I have them both in my hands?
My budget is $200-300 but if something less expensive will work I have no issue with that either.
I would also like to use the flip caps that come with the scope if possible.
Any opinions, comments or beatdowns are appreciated. :runaway:

I have attached the dimensions of the scope from the Sightron page underneath.

One company's tall rings, is another companies low rings, the names mean nothing. there are some calculators you can use that will tell you how high the rings will need to be.

If you have a set of high rings (any brand) to try that scope with, it would be a good starting point. I'd personally wait until you have both in hand, but I understand the temptation to try and sort it out in advance. Back to the high rings~if they're too low, you can now measure how high they hold the scope off the weaver rail (top of rail to bottom of scope) then use that dimension to try and sort-out who might make what you need. It's what I do, but it seems some manufacturers use the distance from the top of the base to the center of the scope. As Mustang suggests, there is no standard "high"/"low"...every manufacturer does their own thing.

Yes. Trouble is I don't know the height of the base to get the proper calculations.

 The temptation is super strong. lol
Mostly for the reason that the rifle has been stuck in Canada Post for a few days and its one province over. Also there isn't a lot of selection in the couple shops here to go and buy. So add another few days for buying something and shipping it online.
Moving to the Saskatoon area from Toronto a year ago has been great except for the fact the selection here is very minimal when you shop whether it's pizza or firearm accessories.
I'm trying to become a bit more patient.
Thanks for the reply.

I get it. Based on (What I think) the cost of that rifle/scope combo is...waiting must be extra tough! :) However, it'll be worth it in the end.

I don't know what you have in mind FOR rings (ie, brand) but based on the rifle, perhaps Alberta Tactical might be the right place to start. They make in-house, and I think in the price range you're looking for. In fact, doesn't someone from PGW post on this forum? Maybe contact PGW, tell them the rifle you have coming..give them the scope specs, and ask them? Perhaps they could make a suggestion.

I have a Coyote and a Siii

You can use ( and I recommend ) TPS 30mm High or the Vortex ( which really are Seekins Precision ) 30mm High

I may just do that. I am already in talks with Ross and I will bring it up to him during our next conversation which will also include hopefully getting an LRA bipod if they have any in stock.

One can calculate the ring height that you NEED for the scope bell to clear everything, but that may or may not put your eye in line with your reticle. Sometimes you get a nice surprise like I did for my Panda FTR .308 + NF 55x comp scope where the bloody bolt handle touches the bump on the zoom ring JUST enough for me to not be able to use full mag!!! Dammit!!!

Point of my story is that you may have to try a couple different ones first....but Tomochan's advice is a great start for you.

ps - you're getting one hell of a rifle there!!! Good for you for starting at the top!!!!

Awesome!!! Thank you.
I was going to ask if there was enough room for the flip cap and it looks like maybe it does.
I'll take a look and see where I can find these.

I'm just lucky that I am in the position to be able to do so.
The scope wasn't my first choice but from what I have read it's a very good start and the worst case scenario is it will be passed on to my next rifle.
My father use to tell me always buy the best you can afford so that's what I have done.

Being single helps also. Allows you to put your work bench in your living room next across from the eliptical and second fridge only for liquids. ;)

I have used these for years in F Class and they are excellent. The advantage I have is I can go into the store with the rifle and scope and we can fit them to my eye level on the spot. I used to mount them as close as possible to the rifle, but in the last year moved them up a little to centre the eyeball a bit better (requires you to lift your head up a bit). This improved my shots.

Yup - if you ever become un-single be sure she's OK with your hobbies......you will likely have to move the work bench, but if she nags about you spending to much time in the gun room/range, away she goes!!!!

I agree fully about buying the best you can afford. Nothing wrong with that Sightron though - and you'll get good value out of it when you go to move up.

Good call on the LRA as well.

ENJOY!!!

I'm glad I'm not the only one that is proud of the maple leaf..... I'm sure some will call us dumb, but whatever. I just wish they'd sell be a bolt handle with the lead in it for my ATRS built .338..... Hint....
