Please recommend a Ballistics Calculator

There is always a certain amount of estimation involved regardless of what system you use and our individual accuracy expectations and at what distance.

Out to 600 yards there is rarely more than about 1/2 MOA variation from the base line POI and the shift is quite predictable. For most shooters 800 yards is about the max to honestly expect a first round hit on a 1 MOA target with any decent cartridge. Longer than that the hit rate drops dramatically for most everyone regardless of the ballistic device being used.

Rotation of the earth would not be accounted for with my software, but that plays out at more extreme distances anyway.

The goal of this particular software project is not to chest bump against Kestrels linked to Bluetooth range finders, its just to create an analogue printed output format that is comprehensive and fast to predict POI with a simple learning curve.

I find Kestrels to be a little like a single decimal place reloading scale. It provides a highly precise numerical value that does not so closely correlate to reality. It will get you close, but not consistently exact, except by chance.

Keep in mind these devices only measure where they are and have no ability to see what is happening down range. Sooner or later, you have to interpolate the values and take a leap of faith.

Kestrel 5700 Elite with Applied Ballistics. I used the phone ones for a bit, but the combined calculator and environmental data in the same spot was just worth the value to me
