What would I look for in a spotting scope and not spend an arm and 3 legs? It would be my first and I'm shoting 20-50 yards with handgun.

A spotting scope should have no problems focusing at 25 yards but some nice bino's or a variable rifle scope would do well at short range.

Do you shoot rifle's as well?

No I don't shoot rifles and the lighting at my indoor range isn't great. A couple of the guys there use a small scope that clips on to the dividers between shooting positons. I get so used to asking questions in the forums I didn't think until now to ask them what they are using. Insert smiley face here.

If you want to have a spotting scope , Celestron make a very nice unit that is called a 50 mini, its a 12-36 zoom eye piece and they retail in the $129.00 range, and are available in a 45 degree or a straight tube. FS

I have a 12-24x50 power compact Burris that I have used for close range, it works well. If your interested in one of them, I have one sitting here new in sealed box I'd sell reasonably cheap, just need to find it... let me know if your interested.
