Prefer in-line Muzzleloaders also. Perfect recipe for my T/C ProHunter is 110gr of Blackhorn 209 with the 250gr Hornaday SST's.. now the 300gr SST's are darn accurate too..

Hunted with a percussion black powder rifle for years and took a few deer with it. It had a certain charm but I use a savage ml with smokeless. Same basic firearm but a lot less hassle factor.

There is more learning to black powder than modern cartridge rifles. To be proficient with a muzzle loader you have to spend the time. It is a mater of learning how to make it go off each time and that takes time and practice. That is usually 2 things folks don't want to put in. Your hunting skills also have to change. That takes time as well.
Personally I use percussion rifles with patched round ball. I was fortunate to have good teachers when I took up muzzle loaders.
In my opinion, unless you are willing to put in the time and effort with muzzle loaders, I'd say stick with cartridge rifles. YMMV.

As a side note to this post. I did go out a couple times with some of my friends shooting black powder guns. They were showing me how it works mainly. Though shooting powder is exciting when it goes off with all the smoke afterwards, I found the gun a little awkward to hold steady while aiming being it's very barrel heavy. The gun I shot was about 80 years old and is used by my friend during our local reenactments of "The Battle of The Thames" 1812.

Thank you all for you comments to this thread I found them very informative learned you all have a different approach to the powder aspect of guns. Thanks again.
