" the match was full at capacity (350 competitors registered) in less than 8 minutes "
I don't recall seeing squads missing people last year?
I hope that the group running this match can figure out a way to get more people into the match, no reason we couldn't see a Nationals at 500 or more soon.
Better yet, separate events per division, like in the States.
I hope they can figure it out, I was ROing at my club’s practice night and couldn’t sign up until a couple hours after.
There were some, my squad had an extra shooter added and I remember seeing a few squads with like 3 people on them.
I don’t like that idea because people will want to shoot in more than one division.
And what's the issue?

Not trying to be a ####, just genuinely curious, what would be the harm in that?
New at the game?
Simply Unacceptable. Unfair competition to shoot stages that you already know or have shot against other competitors that only have 5 minutes max to figure out the best way to shoot them.
Match in a beautiful Quebec City! Of course there will be 400+ people, is that surprising? I just hope it’s not a repeat of last nationals where people decided not to show up...some squads were so small they were combined!
Moot point. All the top contenders will shoot all events and for there rest it won't matter anyways. I have few examples from side-by-side matches (including IPSC WS in Florida + US IPSC Nationals week after) and they aren't conclusive.
I acknowledge your comment and examples. But you also know and understand the philosophy or intent behind 1.1.4.
Evidently, practicality overrules intents on some occasions...
