Hi. Where you are matters.
6mm PPC case head is 67 thou bigger. Means the extractor will need modifying and possibly the bolt face. The .223 case is 270 thou(that's over 1/4") longer. Only matters if the rifle is not a single shot. The .223 won't fit in the mag if there is one. Most BR rifles are single shot.
You might be able to sell the 'thick #####'(snicker. BR barrels are like that. Then again, so are varmint rifle barrels.) depending on how many rounds have gone through it. Possibly be able to anyway. BR shooters are far more demanding of accuracy than a varmint hunter. Mind you, you'd have to find a guy with a 40X receiver.
A 40X is a high end action. Finding a barrel likely won't be too much trouble. Still be a higher end barrel.
Plan 'B' would be to keep it as is for a varmint rifle. It'll be a reloading only thing though. Isn't loaded by anybody but Lapua and Sako. Could have sworn I saw brass somewhere. Goble's, in London, I think. RCBS dies are expensive, but Hornady and Redding make 'em too.

I have a suggestion, why not just leave it alone and either sell it, or shoot it as is. The amount of work and money you'd have to put into changing your rifle over wouldn't be worth it.

6mm PPC is one of THE most accurate cartridges ever. A lot of guys would gladly take it off your hands if you don't want it.

You can easily find an accurate target rifle already chambered in .223 Rem. I've shot a stock Rem 700 BDL VS with great results. Unfortunately, they stopped making them, but there are other similar options.

As has been mentioned, 223 is a different bolt face altogether. That is a very nice action though.

To do what you want, you need a new bolt (with handle you're looking at about $250-300, and you need to find somone to attach the handle for you)

You will also need a new barrel.

You can also just convert the gun to a 220 Russian, which would use the same brass as the 6PPC and allow you to use the same bolt. It is an extremely accurate cartridge that would use the same bullets as the 223.

Seems to me if you wan't a 22 cal I would just do a 22ppc they were the cat's meow back in the days of benchrest before the 6ppc and are extremely accurate.
I know a couple of guys at my range who have 22ppc with 1-8 twist barrels for the heavier bullets and they are dead accurate in the 2's or better @ 100 yds.
There is a new 22ppc reamer in my cutter cabinet,I need to chuck a 224 blank in my lathe one of these days and build a 22ppc to play with it would make a great little varmint round for sure.

Great idea Coyote....I'm sure a 22 PPC would be a real hummer. The 220 Russian has the advantage of lapua brass, and it is from the 220 Russian that PPC brass is made.

skbarron,
See if Charles.emond is willing to trade bolts with you. Otherwise, the reduction of your boltface back to 223 size, while possible, is going to be a relatively complex and costly procedure. Regards, Bill.
