In the market for a new rifle to add to the collection. When I bought my last new gun, I did check out a CZ 550, as they had one in the caliber I wanted (6.5 x55), but the action seemed REALLY rough (sloppy and binding). Took me about 10 seconds to hand it back to the clerk. Even she admitted that it was bad. I'm sure this was an exception rather than the rule, but please enlighten me as to why one would buy a CZ as opposed to the myriad of other bolt guns out there in the same price range.

Thanks in advance for your answer:popCorn:

They are well made and the ones I have shoot sub moa out of the box.

The bolt thing wears away. I sat down and watched a football game working the action with some oil and now it's silky smooth.

Great rifle for the price.

If you are not going to buy it PM me as to where that one is as I am looking for another 550 in 6.5x55.

Ford , Chevy or Dodge, whats your choice.
The CZ's are some very nice guns with very nice wood and for the money and out of the box accuracy they are good value for the dollar.
Either you like the fit and feel or you do not simple as that.
But then again I have a CZ a Browning Abolt and a Vanguard in my stable much to the dismay of others.
My Toyota and Harley argue all the time who gets driven/ridden on those sunny days.
Yah Falla ?
Tight Groups,
Rob

My CZ 550 is one of the smoothest working rifles in my safe and for a full stock rifle its a very consistent grouping rifle.
Quality of workmanship and wood to metal fit is superb, it is for me, a keeper.

I'm waiting for a CZ550FS. I was told when I ordered it that the action would be stiff when I get it. I just plan to work the action until it gets nice and smooth. I'm really looking forward to it coming in. I held one to get an idea of the feel and it seemed to fit me well.

Ive had two- both loosened up quite a bit. As smooth as a tikka? maybe after a while or if you spend a couple bucks on lapping compound.

When compared to the tikka though theres no question as far as finish + general put togetherness. Also- its a mauser damnit. tough, old school wood n steel guns.

A word of warning, the full stock version is addictive.
And they are very nicely balanced...

CZ 550's I've handled were all smooth as butter. It almost sounds like the one you had was similar in feel to a Zastava out of the box. I own 2 zastavas and the main thing with smoothing them up are the guide rails above the mag well. They have a little burr on the edge that can be taken off with emery paper in about 15 seconds or more and it smooths things right up. Had a similar issue on a savage 111 I bought for my wife. So since the CZ is a mauser like the Zastava I'd say check those rails for sharpness. That being said I would have expected better fit and finish on a CZ so I'm guessing the one you held was deburred by the new guy or the hung over guy. :p

I have one i really like it. It is still kind of rough after a few hundred rounds but when you are actualy shooting it it feels good. The trigger is awesome i was leery about the adjustability unset since i dont use the set feature. It was kind of heavy out of the box and had about 4 humps in the creep before the striker went but i adjusted it just fine i like the open sights of the lux its a 6 55 no scope slightly heavy which i like its a good old fashioned gun
