Hello. I have been looking to buy a volquartsen .17hmr. With a 20in barrel in stainless.

I was looking at 17wsm but it seems like the ammunition has been unreliable.

Intended use is gopher and rabbit and squirrels on my farm with maybe the odd close range coyote as well as and plinking.

I've been down the road of customizing my own 10/22 in 22lr with a Kidd trigger and new stock and now I just want a good rifle out of the box this time.

My idea is .17hmr to 150 yards along with a bolt action 17.hornet or 204 luger out to 400 yards. I don't want to go bigger because of noise, cost and I already have large caliber rifles.

I understand that a bolt action rifle would be better, but I like variety.

Does anyone else make a good semi auto 17 hmr?

Yes someone else does, buy yourself a Savage TH Target A17 with 25 round mags and call it a day. Volquartsen rifles are nice but not worth the price.

I've been trying to find one with a TH stock with no luck. I did find one with a plastic stock and hope to replace the stock with a laminate version, and then look at before/after bedding accuracy. See how it goes.

Thank you for your replies. I just purchased the last cz 527 in 17 hornet in Canada and have opted against the volquartsen in 17 hmr for now. I'll just keep using my 22.

Thanks again!

why not keep the thread alive for others to view?
