if you found a left hand savage that you liked and fit you well ,then it would be just a matter of getting a pre fit barrel in the round of your choice , screw on and headspace it .

tradex also has a bunch of left hand rifles , some of them in 6.5x55

Ok, so I see that I can do this with a Savage and screw on either a short or long action barrel...a Shilen for example. I guess it's a question of a 16 or 116 - if I ultimately want a 260 Rem (not offered in left) I guess the Norma is out as it's long action. The alternative appears to be buying a cheap LH used savage for the action, buy a barrel and find an Accustock with trigger and DBM?

Or you can order a Montana from Prophet river and have it chambered for any of the calibers they chamber the right handed ones for. You can get the factory 6.5x284.

Buy a Savage if you can live with that... your 700 would make a great platform to build on... if you want to sell your 700 you will do that very easily. Let me know.

6.5 x 47 Lapua would be great and the 260 Rem. The 284 case really needs a longer action for best usage.

I have scoured all shops in Canada and see a Montana Rifle Company LH in 280AI at PR - the price looks right and all reviews look favourable. Dennis - you and Jerry are genius, I don't have your skills and can't see myself ever catching up. Outside of the odd .270, I've only seen 2 come up in 6 years - guess I was lucky in finding my LH 700s, paid $800 for my 22-250 even, but all are pin punchers.

I see the merit of hanging on to these however. My .243 is .009" longer now than in 2008 when I acquired it so I'm chasing lands. It's still super crazy accurate - so maybe I'll hold and rebarrel this guy some day. And you know, I've recently gone to 140 gr AB in the .270 so a 6.5mm as a back-up or front-runner is in the cards, just when is the question. All my research points to the traditional 6.5 x 55, 6.5 x 47 and now the 260...if only money grew on trees.
