I want something that will function well but isn't all pretty that scares people away. Inexpensive is great so if it gets some range rash I don't flip my s@#$.
I am looking at a Steven's 320 to use as a loner gun for when our club has one of our fun shoots for beginners.
Any one on here have one of these and what are your thoughts.
Thanks in advance for the input folks.
Available in Edmonton if possible.

I always recommend Hatsan pumps for a shotgun on a budget. Nice finish, smooth action, reliable, price.
They can be as low $300 and sometimes lower.
Mavericks and Mossberg's will climb in price a bit being as low as $300-$400. Also good. The Remington Express are then higher at 400+.

Or look on the EE and they all tend to go for $50-$100 less.

Mossberg maverick 88.

Can be had for under $300, paid $250+tax for mine.

Buy north American made! (Hecho en Mexico!)

Takes all mossy 500 parts except trigger groups. It's even possible to change the forearm with some extra parts off a 500. (Action bars and a nut or something? I dunno it's on YouTube)

I originally wanted a stevens 350, but questionable parts availability made me go Mossberg - cause If i can't find parts for a Mossberg shotgun I'm not finding parts for anything...

just this January, Cabela's had 12g maverick 88 fields for $219 with free shipping...I already had one, but I wanted a 28" vent rib...the barrel alone was $199, the barrel with a gun attached to it was $20 more...

You cannot imagine the level of irritation I have for Wholesale Sports in south Edmonton.
I "found" some extra money to put towards a pump. The guy I talked to on the phone COULD HAVE CARED LESS that he was serving me. He had zero product knowledge so I bet if I had been there in person would have known more about the stuff.
I am calling some of the little stores today to see what they've got.
THEY CARE ABOUT MY $.

another vote for a mav 88 or a mossy 500. get one with a buttstock rather than a pistol grip though :)

Screw that BigBox store. Buy from one of the site sponsors.

The last Remington 870 Express Magnum that I bought new, about 18 months ago, cost $309 plus tax. It had the wood laminate stock and a 26" barrel with a modified Remchoke. Inexpensive but not "cheap". Though the tolerances did seem a little less precise than the Wingmaster and Express SG's of the past, it functioned as well as any other 870 I've owned.

Are they shooting trap or skeet with it, or both?

You can routinely find Winchester Model 12s with the factory 30 inch barrel and fixed full choke for 250$.

Has lasted 70 years already, no reason to think it will give up, or stop being reliable anytime soon..
